About Me

A Hoosier at heart, I’m now a world-roaming journalist.

I grew up in the heartland of America in rural Indiana and received my journalism degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. Post-graduation, I had an amazing time living and working in journalism in New York City for two years. Then I decided I needed to get some more world-class experience and I landed a job editing a government-affiliated think tank’s economics journal in Beijing, which resulted in this blog—an avenue for my friends and family at home in the U.S. to keep up with my many adventures. After a year of exploits in Beijing, attempting to learn Mandarin and acclimate to Chinese culture, I’ve since relocated to Hong Kong, where I’m an online editor for WSJ.com.

I write and I tweet about what I know and what I experience: Asia, Hong Kong, China, women, the media, IU, travel. I hope that this helps make my family and friends feel like we’re a little bit closer than the actual 7,000 miles between us—and perhaps my experiences will be useful to some random Google searcher along the way. You can also find me on Twitter (mostly China news, with occasional observations or rants), on Facebook (where, sorry, I only friend people I actually know in real life), my work experience on LinkedIn and the random links and photos I find around the web on Tumblr. My photos are also available on Flickr. Curious about something I’ve said? Email me!

  1. I thought you were stationed in Beijing and Hongkong, but the picture was taken in Nanjing, wasn’t it ?

I like the name of your blog 万水千山, which implies 总是行 :)
