Big Buddha at Po Lin Monastery

On Monday, Brian and I took a little day trip to the Po Lin Monastery and the Big Buddha on Lantau Island, one of Hong Kong’s most popular tourist sites.

The Big Buddha. (Unfortunately, we got to the top in late afternoon and the sun was so bright that the pictures didn't turn out so well.)

The area, in Ngong Ping, is reachable by taking a large cable car that stretches over the water and the mountains for more than 3 miles to the top, where the area is and its Big Buddha is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world at more than 100 feet high. The Big Buddha, which you must climb 260 steps to reach, is then surrounded by six other smaller statues called The Offering of the Six Devas.

More pictures after the jump.
