Bledisloe Cup

This weekend, Brian came to visit and we went to the Bledisloe Cup game, a rugby match between Australia and New Zealand at Hong Kong Stadium. It was my first time watching a professional rugby match (the only other match I’ve seen having been a pretty casual game Brian played in in Beijing), and I must say rugby is actually kind of fun (and certainly more agreeable to American viewing audiences than soccer — it’s more fast-paced). The game’s outcome even came down to the last minute. Fun.

My favorite part, of course, was watching the Kiwis do the Haka before the match, a tribal dance based on Maori (native New Zealand-ers) tradition, involving choreographed slapping and shouting, inviting the opposing team to the match.
